art_rebellionAngst and rebellion may not be a central corporate theme at Harley-Davidson these days and one could debate how long it’s been since any rebel really rocked a Harley motorcycle. But as an American cultural icon it seems to follow that we — that is me, you, and everyone we know — are keyed into the disestablishmentarianism culture of motorcycles.

So, HD gathered 11 of the most notable and relevant artists of the day to present their take on the theme of “Rebellion.” Harley must feel it’s time for new associations and ideas regarding history and popular culture?

The company is sponsoring “The Art of Rebellion”, a one night show on February 7th at the Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station Arts Center. Each of the 11 artists have been given a Harley gas tank to use as a canvas for an original artwork, which will then be sold at the event with a portion of the proceeds going to Art Matters , a foundation supporting groundbreaking artists.  The official web site provides more details.

Is it time for Harley to reinforce or quit sticking to the same old stereotypes and cliches?
